‘Best Schonburger in the land’

Posted on:May 13, 2019

Matthew Jukes, top wine critic for the Daily Mail, selects the Danebury Vineyards Schönburger as one of his top wines. In his article on Sat. 11th May 2019, in the Weekend section of the Daily Mail, he calls it ‘one of his favourites ever made from this variety’.  We are delighted and very proud of this recognition and hope you will seek it out from our stockists.  We give an extract below, but the full article can be found at http://matthewjukes.com/

Bargains galore this week plus the finest Schönburger in the land!

‘Behind the Label’ – 2016 Danebury, Schönburger, England (£12.95, www.wineutopia.co.uk; £12.99,  www.thegeneralwine.co.uk).  Schönburger is a relatively unknown, pink-skinned German grape, related to Pinot Noir, Chasselas and Muscat of Hamburg.  Danebury is an expert producer of this floral, enchanting grape and this delicious white wine is one of my favourites ever made from this variety.  The perfect aperitif style wine, it is also delicious with smoked salmon and seafood starters.  It is the vinous equivalent of a lazy stroll through the beautiful English countryside in bloom.
