DANEBURY VINEYARDS HARVEST REPORT 2016
Having picked the Madeleine Angevine a couple of weeks earlier, the Schonburger, Auxerrois and Rulander were then picked in glorious sunshine on 22nd October by our army of enthusiastic volunteers. This year we recorded almost perfect sugar and acid readings, with our winemaker reporting that the Schonburger sugar was the highest he had seen this year by a long way. This bodes very well for the 2016 vintage, which looks like being our best one since 2003.
As always, very many thanks to the volunteer pickers, who never fail to make the day a busy, joyful and memorable occasion.

We look forward to raising a glass of Cossack to her on a nearby racecourse soon.

On the 9th August 2016 the inaugural Vineyard Olympics took place at Jenkyn Place. A beautiful summer's day saw seven vineyards of Hampshire (Danebury, Cottonworth, Exton Park, Jenkyn Place, Hattingley Valley, Hambledon and Meonhill) take on four of Sussex's finest (Wiston, Bluebell, Nyetimber and Rathfinney). The competition took place in very good spirits, despite being fiercely contested, and included events such as barrel rolling, tossing the end post, cork bobbing, tug of war, wine waiter's race and a relay race. Hampshire Vineyards eventually posted a triumphant win, largely thanks to their superior muscle power in both the men's and women's tug of war competitions. Over £700 was raised for The Benevolent (the drink's industry charity) and a challenge was laid down by Sussex for a rematch next year. Bring it on!

The trainer is Jeremy Gask and he currently has around 50 horses in training, with many more expected in the near future. We also hope to have some exciting news to report about a particular horse very soon...........!

DANEBURY VINEYARDS HARVEST REPORT 2015
Early October saw us pick a sizeable crop of high quality Madeleine Angevine in overcast, but dry and mild conditions. Three weeks later it was the turn of the Schonburger, Auxerrois and Rulander to be picked and, although the crop was somewhat smaller than the last two years, the excellent sugar and acid readings mean that we are once again expecting an excellent vintage.
As always, many thanks to our army of volunteer pickers, whose energy and good humour never fail to make the day a memorable one!

Danebury Vineyards are delighted to announce the release of the 2013 still vintages, especially the return of the Danebury Reserve, our award-winning wine made from a blend of all our grape varieties. The Schonburger 2013 and Reserve 2013 are now available and are drinking very well, along with our new vintage sparkling, Cossack 2009, which has also just been released. The Madeleine Angevine 2011 (9% Alcohol, 95 Calories per glass) is still available and continues to be a very popular wine. Do see our expert tasting notes for each wine, kindly provided totally independently by Derek Smedley MW, a great supporter of Danebury wines.
Meanwhile, the vines are currently dormant at Danebury, with the important job of pruning about to commence.

DANEBURY VINEYARDS HARVEST REPORT 2014
As with 2013, we ended up having three pickings this year. The first of these was undertaken in particularly challenging conditions, with the rain hammering down and a huge amount of fruit to be picked. In the end we got the Madeleine Angevine and new vine Schonburger in, but left the old vine Schonburger to be picked in sunny, calm conditions the following week. A few days later we harvested the Auxerrois, which was again a heavy crop.
All in all we are happy with the ripeness, acids and quantity, although the sugars are slightly lower than we expected, and we are expecting another super vintage.
It just remains for me to, once again, thank our excellent volunteer pickers, who worked extremely hard and with great good humour in trying conditions. We really couldn't do it without them.

Well the vines have certainly taken a bit of a hammering over the last few days and weeks - at least they are dormant, so no damage has been done to them, however we have had plenty of trellising repairs to make and a number of trees down in the drive, so we are certainly keeping busy. The excessive amounts of rainfall shouldn't have any effect on the vines either, as the chalk soil drains freely and we do not suffer from waterlogging. Looking forward to the arrival of a calm spring!

DANEBURY VINEYARDS HARVEST REPORT 2013
Danebury Vineyards had three harvests in the sunshine this year, a considerable improvement on the single one for 2012, with our early ripening Madeleine Angevine being the first to make it to our winemaker. It was followed two weeks later by our Auxerrois and Pinot Gris, which go into making our award winning sparkling wine. Unusually, our Schonburger was harvested in two lots, one to make an 'old vine' Schonburger (vines over 20 years old) and the rest to make a 'new vine' Schonburger from our younger vines - so look out for our two Schonburger 2013.
Overall the yield was plentiful and, although the sugar and acid was slightly lower then expected considering the warm summer of 2013, the signs are promising for another excellent Danebury vintage.
Our harvests are done by hand and, as always, we thank all the enthusiastic friends and neighbours of Danebury for their hard work and continued support.
